New Gold Sponsor for 19-20

We are pleased to announce yet another Gold Sponsor for the 19-20 season. Vibra Air Filter Cleaning has committed to the club and we would like to welcome David Solomon and the crew at Vibra Air Filter Cleaning to the SPCC family.

One of the most significant costs for many industries today is equipment maintenance. Air filtration costs make up a large portion of that.   We’re here to help you keep those costs to a minimum.

Vibra Air Filter Cleaning is an ISO 9001 Quality Accredited Air Filter Cleaning Company. In fact we’re Western Australia’s first and only Quality Accredited air cleaning company.

At Vibra our focus is on helping you reduce costs, increase efficiency and maximise profits, without any compromise to the health of your people, assets or the environment.   We achieve this through our unique, proven air filter cleaning and testing process that ensures optimum cleaning and the highest quality analysis. Our process is based on a proven technique whereby dirt is removed by a combination of vibration, spinning high pressure air and vacuum, resulting in filters being free of dust contamination.

Our zero claim record is proud testament to the efficiency and expertise of both our process and our team.   However, Vibra is defined by more than just its process and procedures. As a locally owned Western Australian company that’s been in business for close to three decades, we understand the importance of customer service. And the value of working closely with our customers to offer customised solutions that ensure savings, efficiency and results.

Poppy tackling it in her stride

If you ask 15-year-old Poppy Stockwell which sport she prefers out of football or cricket, she will tell you she simply can’t decide.
The extremely talented but modest Kelmscott Senior High student excels in both sporting codes having been selected numerous times to compete against many of the country’s best.
Poppy’s latest achievements in football include representing Western Australia in the under 16s development squad which saw her play against the under 18s state team at Optus Stadium earlier this month.
Her achievements with the ball and bat are enormous too.
These include being named as vice captain of the state’s under 15s female team, which played at the Cricket Australia championships in Canberra in February this year as well as being named in the under 18s state team, which played at Bendigo in January this year.
This September Poppy will travel to Brisbane to show off her skills to the representatives at Cricket Australia in the hope of making the Cricket Australia XI women’s side.
Poppy first started playing football when she was seven years old, always donning the yellow and black for local club Roleystone Tigers.
Playing the role of forward most of the time she said she liked making great friendships and enjoyed furthering her skills in the fast paced game.
While her cricket career originally started at Roleystone Karragullen Cricket Club, she has since moved to South Perth Cricket Club to further hone her skills.
Former cricket coach Bryan Kennelly said she was the only girl in the team and in the competition when she played in Roleystone Karragullen’s under 14s side.
“She held her own for sure against the boys and even showed a lot of them up,” he said.
When Poppy finishes her schooling career she knows her future is in sport but is unsure of which code she will end up playing.
“I would like to play cricket professionally or be selected in an AFL women’s side,” she said.

Congratulations to the following players

Tyler Jones

A special mention goes to Tyler being chosen as vice captain of the team.

Vale Bruce Buggins

It is with sadness that we confirm the passing of club legend Bruce Buggins.
With a WA career stretching between 1954 and 1963, Bruce played 63 matches, had a highest score of 60 not out and best bowling figures of 1 for 1. Not bad for a keeper.
Bruce still holds the club record for "Most Dismissals for a Keeper with 199 catches and 97 stumpings.
Playing in 5 out of the clubs 7 two day premiership winning sidessurely puts Bruce in rare company at SPCC let alone the WACA cricket fraternity.

Black Cap #1

Theodore "Ted" Badcock was a player and official at the South Perth Cricket Club for many years. Playing in the first official test match for New Zealand against South Africa in 1932, Ted was posthumously awarded "Black Cap #1" , an incredible honour which will be forever remembered in not only New Zealand but international cricket.

On his passing in 1982, he generously bequeathed to the club his extensive collection of cricket history which included the "Black Cap" amongst an extensive library of cricket books, photos  and trophies.

Given the significance of the of the cap to New Zealand cricket, the management of the club saw fit to contact New Zealand cricket with the view to "relocating" the cap back to New Zealand to be exhibited. It was agreed that the cap would be given to New Zealand cricket on loan with the cap remaining the exclusive property of the South Perth Cricket Club.

Other NZ connections with SPCC  include

Paul Barton, Rodney Redmond and Aaron Redmond and recent head coach Brendan Bracewell.

1 from 1 for Female Youth League

The inaugural Female Youth League season couldn't have got off to a better start for South Perth under the mentorship of Jill Powell with a win away against Melville.

Ex England international cricketer, Jill has a passion for female cricket (and sport in general) and the girls have had the benefit of working with Jill in the lead up to the season.

Zoe Britcliffe captained the side and lead from the front with 2 early wickets removing both Melville openers. Zoe followed this up by opening the batting and making a better than run a ball 39.

Sienna Ryan and Loren Russo chimed in with a wicket a piece to contain Melville to respectable 4 for 112 of their 20 overs.

Poppy Stockwell anchored the South Perth innings to finish not out on 37 from 45 balls. South Perth reached the target with the loss of only 2 wickets with over 3 overs to spare.

Great team effort and congratulations on the first win.

Healy hits out

The Scorecard looks pretty impressive, 108no with 20 fours off 99 balls, guides the Sky Blues to an emphatic win over Rockingham Mandurah in the WACA Female B Grade 40 Over match. To top it off Molly finished with 3 overs 1/11.

We have a feeling you will be hearing a lot more about Molly this season. Amazing effort Molly, well done
