Hilton Cartwright Selected In WA Squad To Play Victoria At MCG
Date of Event : Mon Nov 5, 2012 7:37AM

South Perth all-rounder Hilton Cartwright has been called into the Warriors team for Wednesday's RYOBI One-Day Cup match against the Commonwealth Bank Bushrangers at the MCG.
20-year old Cartwright, a member of the WACA's Development Squad, has been rewarded for outstanding recent performances in the WACA District competition and the Toyota Futures League.
He is set to make his interstate debut in Wednesday's game and is one of three changes to the Warriors team that defeated the Bushrangers in their last RYOBI Cup match at the WACA Ground in late September.
Adam Voges returns and will skipper the side, while Jason Behrendorff will remain in Melbourne after taking seven wickets in the recently-completed Bupa Sheffield Shield encounter. Out of the team are Will Bosisto, Michael Hogan and Shaun Marsh.
Cartwright scored a match-winning century for the Sky Blues against Fremantle last weekend, and carried that form into last week's Toyota Futures League clash against the QAS.
He chalked up a fine double of 79 and 84 not out as well as taking seven wickets, claiming Man of the Match honours in WA's five wicket win.
Cartwright says he was left speechless when given the news of his selction today by State Match Committee member Wayne Clark.
"I just couldn't say anything when he told me I was in the squad, I was literally lost for words, but I was so stoked to get the news," he said.
"I was hoping to build up my form in the early part of the season and hopefully get a game with the Warriors after Christmas if things went well, but I am excited to get an opportunity."
Cartwright added that he felt after working hard leading into the start of the summer the results would come.
"I was hitting the ball well in the Fremantle game, and that followed through to the Futures League match as well," he said.
"It was handy playing that game at home (Richardson Park), where I knew the deck and how it would play. I couldn't have asked much more from the game and have no complaints with my cricket right now."
He says he is looking forward to the chance to play a game at the famous Melbourne Cricket Ground.
"I've done a tour there before but that's about all, so it will obviously be different if I get the opportunity to be out in the middle," Cartwright said.
"I would be happy to play anywhere, but you can't ask for too much more than to have the chance to play your first interstate game at the MCG.
"I'm obviously a little nervous and not sure what to expect, but I can't wait to get over there and see the guys and be part of the squad.
"Even if I end up being 12th Man, I'll just be glad to be over there and to enjoy the experience. I have long dreamed to play for WA and to be so close to that, it just feels surreal."
The match commences at 11.15am Perth time on Wednesday and will be broadcast live through Fox Sports and on 91.3 Sport FM and ABC Grandstand Digital.
